What did you do to your scoot today?
This seems to be a popular topic for discussion today on a lot of forums, so I think we need one too!
So... no matter how big or small, what did you do to your scoot today? :) |
Currently rewiring the headlights :D Almost done!!
|
My Fashion has been sitting for a while so I put it back on the trickle charger. I may get a chance to ride it tomorrow.
|
I was going to make my own post but it fits in here nicely. I had my first drop today. I was getting off it and for some reason I didn't turn it off before i got off. Hit that throttle scoot went nuts and fell scuffed up the left side of my scoot and broke off some of the rear break handle. I'm ok but my ego was hurt cause I did this infront of 2 very attractive girls who just laughed at me lol.

Thanks for reminding me. Change the oil!
|
Hi
Checked all my motorbikes from top to bottom and performed what ever was nessacary to keep them "Ship shape and Bristol fashion" Take care and ride safely Yours Hank |
Installed an iridium sparkplug. Made a difference for the good and hopefully will last longer as well.
|
I thought about changing my oil. But I didn't actually do it.
|
This AM, I was just going to ride to Mickey D's to get a cup of coffee....somehow by the time I got home, I had covered 30 miles....seems good to finally have some decent weather...Bob
|
Changed my oil for the first time (on my scoot-I've done them on my car before). The dealer had done the first oil change a while back.
After draining the oil, I had to lay the scoot on its side to help me get the screen, spring and plug back in correctly. I wanted to be sure I could see how everything fit. I shouldn't need to lean it over next time to get everything back in. |
Hahahaha....
|
Got my CityGrip tires to be mounted to the wheels. Got some of the Streetglo reflective decals put on my helmet, and today around my leg guards and rear rack and elsewhere.
|
Greasing greasing greasing. And tightening tightening tightening.
Man I forgot how much better my bike rides with a nicely lubed up headset (fork bearings) and wheel. |
Also yesterday we put a new 139qmb on our venerable 2008 Roketa Handsomeboy. The stock one lasted 7800 chinos before the crank bearings went.
7800 chinos on a stock engine is pretty damned good IMHO... |
Took my cvt cover off but now I can't get it to go back on can some please tell me how to reinstall it . I own a 2014 Jonway yy150t-12 scoot.
|
Adding Tyrebeads to my new CityGrips, as I had the shop to NOT balance them.
1 ounce to the front, two ounces to the rear. It was so easy to add these to my tires. Put it on the center stand, remove the air and valve, then use either the tube (provided) over the valve stem, or the squeeze bottle, and squeeze the tyrebeads in to the tube/valve. The rear tire was bit more tedious, as I have a 90 degree valve stem, I used a hose clamp around the tubing to help the beads fall into the valve a wee bit better. Took about 20 minutes total. It was raining pretty hard when I got finished so no test until today. |

I'm a tad confused, the cvt cover just slips onto the case, then you install the two LONG 8mm bolts in the rear, and then start all the other 8mm bolts, then tighten them, starting with the middle bolts in a spiral pattern, using a 1/4" drive ratchet and 8mm socket. |
I did 345 miles from York PA to Roanoke VA, stand up at 8:00 am was lost in Roanoke by 3:00pm. My hotel is in Salem, and with construction and gazing about, caused me to put 45 miles EXTRA zeroing in on the Holiday Inn.
The BR was just flawless....so far!! |
I just did oil changes on the two scooters with no surprise debris present. Given that they both have over 8,000 miles I'm pleased. Other tasks yet to do that will be well worth the time.
|
Installed a new Malossi Yellow torque spring and torque controller to keep the engine in the powerband of the new pipe under acceleration. Works great, now I just need to figure out which clutch springs to use. (Have a set of 3 different ratings to try, plus my clutch has several adjustment options to fine-tune the launch RPMs.) This baby is very close to being dialed in the way I want!
|
Replaced the factory installed battery today. Not going to complain tho....did get two years, and 3 months out of it.

Yesterday I drilled and mounted the hitch connection for my single wheel trailer onto a rear spoiler/passenger hand grab that I got for dirt cheap off of ebay for the Silverwing scooter. (scratched up a bit, but I didn't care... I'm going for utility here) Besides, the rest of the bike has that patina and roughed up skin from actually being used as the workhorse it is. It has character. Not the prettiest little pony I've owned, but darn sure is the hardest worker.
And then today, no pics, but I changed a couple removable connections so that I can use my single wheel trailer with my Silverwing scooter. They were originally set up to work with My Reflex scooter, but the 2007 Reflex that used to pull the trailer is the subject of a streamlining project and so it is not being used to tow the trailer any more. I never did much like doing electrical work on the bike because it is so tedious at times. All that unwrapping of sticky gummy tape to get at wires so that they can be reassigned to the proper connector pins. That and making darned sure wires are going to where they are supposed to. Check wire about 4X, cut, splice, check again, next wire, etc, etc, then check it all again. (don't want to burn anything) Test it, wrap it, try it again. OK. Put the tools away. Didn't have to do anything over, got it right the first time. OK now the wiring is all good to go for the trailer lights plus the auxiliary lights that can be set atop stuff on the passenger seat. The tail lights on the bike are partially obscured by the trailer so the aux lights are needed. The tiny little lights down low on the trailer are pretty much cosmetic IMO. I really need to something with the tail lights that makes it safer... more visible.... A future project. (and I'll add pics of that project) Actually, here is a pic with the extra set of lights on top of the stack O' stuff on the back seat of my 2007 Reflex. It got rearranged just a little bit so it could be seen better before I took off from here. Down on the ground behind the rear wheel is the shredded drive belt that got changed on the side of the road...... Yeah, lucky me....exit 13 LOL!! But it was more than luck.... that I was prepared with a spare drive belt and the tools to do the job some 700 miles from home. http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/...psb3e61f84.jpg |
Damn nice work bandito!!
|
Bought it last evening, rode and washed it this morning. Its an '07 Super 9 with only 1150 km and came with nice extras like a helmet, Tecnigas exhaust, and a Givi removable case. Its not the SR50 i wanted, but it'll do for now

The wife and I scooted to a street fest in my town. I ate some awesome kimchi fries from a food truck. We shopped and tasted a few no-label brews (our local brewery). The sun was very strong and it was a hot scoot home.
|
I've had to ride to Binghamton the last couple of days to visit. The Fashion is handling the 78 mile round trip well. I have to go a few more times and the scooter saves me a lot of gas over my cars. It's been surprisingly comfortable.
|
Switched my honda oem air filter with a K&N. Adding some decals.
|
The wife and I rode to a potential job site for a quick look over. It was difficult to find through through all the construction roads, but that added to the fun. After a week of commuting, its fun to take the scoots out for a little quest.
|
Yesterday I got to enjoy a tripleheader. I took the Fashion to work and used the 50cc and 150cc bikes to fetch groceries in the morning and afternoon.
|
Removed the rear wheel, got the tire irons out...removed the old tire (Kenda K413, 2300 miles), and installed the new one, (Michelin City Grip). Was 35 degrees this AM, so thought it would be good day to spend in the garage. Warmer tomorrow...will give it a road test then.

After sitting under a pine-tree for the last three years, I rescued this E-Ton. I re-built the entire fuel system, and electrical, installed a new master-cylinder and caliper. I took it for it's first ride. The clutch sticks, and the CVT needs some love, but it hit 45+ mph! That's sick fast for a 50cc!
I'm digging it. |
A few days ago I put a new tire on the Fashion. This last tire went 6,150 miles. I'll get a lot of practice replacing tires at this rate.
|
I took a 21 mile ride to get things good and warm....then pulled the drain plugs on the engine and transmission. Had run 611 miles on the engine oil, and 2502 miles on the transmission.....was time to dump and refill.
And KZ.....if I could get over 6000 miles on a drive tire, I'd be acting like this guy..:yay: |
I guess a little attitude adjustment is in order. My motorcycles were getting eight to ten thousand out of cheaper tires. Then again the first tire on the Fashion only lasted 4,375 so I should be happy with this last one.

On another forum we have been having a discussion about putting a car tire on the rear of the Honda Silverwing scooter.
The following is about what I did................... [[[[ Part of a message from a previous post of mine at that site ]]]] Subject: Re: Darkside and ABS Yesterday at 8:19 pm bandito2 wrote: Ended up going out and buying back a 2006 Reflex that I restored and sold to a friend instead of putting the 175/70R13 car tire on and testing..... Looks like another chance for that on Monday. [[[[ I did the follow-up in this posting]]]] So today (Monday Nov. 3, 2014) I put the 175/70R13 on the bike and went out for a 200.7 mile ride to see how it would do. Yes it fits on the bike fine without clearance issues and I never noted any noises or noticed any tire rubbing on the underside of the storage space beneath the seat. The speedometer matches the GPS pretty close speed wise, but the odometer is off by a couple percent with that tire. It tends to keep the bike rolling longer when off the throttle and actually has a nicer feel to it and corners nicer than the 165/65R13. The 165/65R13 is a little more square shouldered than the 175/70R13 so that may be why. I thought it might help with fuel economy, but a 4 mpg improvement seemed not such a big deal to me. The brakes worked only as standard brakes do. The rear wheel I had the 175/70R13 mounted to is a non-ABS wheel and is not drilled and threaded for the pulser ring. The bike naturally is easier to get up onto the center stand, but leans over further when using the side stand. So the question still remains whether the taller 175/70R13 car tire will have a negative effect on the ABS. With no pulser ring on the rear, the ABS never got past the start up self test and so the ABS light stayed on the entire time with no error flashing. I may get the wheel drilled and tapped so a pulser ring will mount to it sometime in the future. So that is my initial impressions of the 175/70R13 car tire after only a 200 mile ride. I really would have liked to test the ABS function with that tire. Maybe somebody else can if they use a tire like that with an ABS Silverwing. Otherwise, I won't be doing anything more about it until spring. |
No more scooting this year....at least here in Western New York. Time for tinkering....so I replaced the amber reflectors on the front sides of my scoot, with these LED's, for added safety when turning. Don't ride at night, so didn't bother to wire the running light portion....just the turn signals.
Surprised at how bright they are....and at $6.76 for the pair (shipped), they are a bargain. |
Cleaned the carburetor when I noticed the idle speed would go down when the pilot jet screw went in but not when it went out. Now it works fine going down when either rich or lean.
Changed the oil to a blend of 1/2 regular 10-40 and 1/2 Mobil 1 synthetic at 28,614 miles. |
Gave the 2006 Honda FSC 600A Silverwing (Jester) & 2006 Honda Reflex Sport (Sovereignty) much needed baths. It got too late to wax & plastic polish them but that's a little task for tomorrow. (gotta make them look nice for the gig on Sunday)
I'm getting things ready for the 2nd Annual Spring Tune Up & BBQ on Sunday May 3. (A gathering of shiftless characters) I'm cooking BBQ country style ribs, corn on the cob ..... the usual stuff you know. There will be 6 of us scooter guys from around area (+ 1 guy's wife) that I managed to talk into joining. Last year there were only 4 of us but we still had a good time. Did some small projects... oil change & 1 of the guys added some LED lights to the rear of his scooter + lots of scooter talk. The weather is forecast to be absolutely beautiful!!! Mid to upper 70's, mosly sunny and NO RAIN!!! ( I put my order in for that way back in the winter) Tomorrow got to move the vehicles out of the garage and to the road because were gathering in the garage mostly and all of the scooters the guys are riding will be in the driveway. (mine too) Should be a great time again. |
After only 10,595 miles the front tire on the Fashion needed to be replaced. I installed a Shinko SR-007 to replace the Cheng Shin it came with. In the last few moths I did the rear tire, new battery, new belt and the front tire. I checked the front brake pads when I had the tire out and they look like new. All ready for the riding season.
|
I took my scoot on a 60 mile round trip to work yesterday. My round trip commute distance jumped from 24 to 60 miles when I took a new job. Highest speed limit along the route is 45 mph, so my 125cc scoot kept up with traffic just fine.
