600 mile first service cost
Just wondering what the average cost of the first 600 mile service .
And what it would be if I change the engine oil & transmission myself. Thanks for any Info. It's like service & maintenance cost are a Secret! If you choose to share your Information, THANK YOU!! |
If you change the engine and gear oil yourself, it's around $8 or $10, but you will be purchasing enough gear oil for several more changes. These two things are among the easiest to do yourself, and will save you a lot. Also, clean your air filter. Most of them are a wash and dry, though some also can be sprayed with a filter oil. Shops will charge you a minimum hourly charge, which is why the oil and filter changes can cost anywhere from $60 upward.

What about the cost of a valve inspection 2015 Yamaha smax
|
I know the day will come, but so far, I've been able to do all my own service, due to being able to buy a full service manual for my PS-250.
A quick search I found this site:http://www.yamahapubs.com/ I did see smax but did not know your model. |
Thank you Cheapeto for the Link . Will be ordering the Service manual. Still have already made a appointment to take in my Smax today for the 600 mile service / inspection. Minus the oil, transmission & both air filters that I've already done.

Looks like the factory recommended way requires the removal of multiple panels.. This guy has an easier way:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VlLJM9-57DE I think I would have the shop do the initial adjustment/inspection, then do it myself thereafter.. |
I saw that YouTube video. That's looks a lot easier than taking off the radiator & water pump to get to the timing marks

Having run two different motorcycle customizing & repair shops in N.H. , I would say that the most useful thing that you can buy is a service manual & if possible an owners manual. Most of the things can be done yourself , if you have any mechanical knowledge & having things done in a shop means cost of labor! If a shop is a brand dealership , you get many notices that are basically shortcuts. I worked for one dealership & it depends mostly on the mechanic that you get. Some mechanics know how to do things correctly but don't! (You didn't hear that from me!):tup: Irish:scoot::nuts:
P.S. After working in one dealership , I told my wife that I would never work in another unless I ran it! A dealer doesn't know the problems that a rider has! |
I hope they don't put the screw to me to bad today. Will let you & others know.
Will be ordering the service manual ASAP . After this 600 mile inspection I'll do all service I'm capable of. Irish , thanks |
I don't buy new stuff anymore, so I'm not used to milage PM schedules. But if I had it I'd use it.
