wont stay running

I have an 08 Mac 54 250 b it starts right up and idle but chokes when u gas it and dies any idea?

Hi
This can be caused by a faulty petcock (or vacuum leak), bad hoses, clogged fuel filter, stuck float, bad or improperly adjusted intake valve, bad fuel pump.
Your just going to have to check them one by one until you find the culprit
Take care and ride safely
Yours Hank

The guy I got it from put a new Carb on it.where could I find a diagram of the vacuum hoses? And do you think it could be the cdi box? The filter is brand new flows good. Thanks for the help to

No it's not a CDI, Coil, or any form of spark issue. You have a fuel problem, most likely a clogged main jet.

I would start by cleaning the carb, sometimes even brand new carbs come dirty. I clean every carb before I install them.

Could be the auto-choke/auto-enricher as well, they are known for going bad. I agree with Hank though, could be anything on that list. I've not often seen a petcock go bad or valves get THAT messed up, but that's just my experience - I know it happens. Just do a google search for the proper hose configuration and look at the images. Sometimes you have to look at a few but you'll see pretty quickly what needs to go where.

Remove the fuel line from the carb. Only about 1/2 oz of fuel should spill out. If fuel keeps spilling out, you have a bad petcock. This is fairly common with OUTSIDE of tank GRAVITY FED petcocks. Replace the petcock (if it is an OUTSIDE tank petcock, replace it with a 3/16" FUEL SHUT OFF SWITCH available at Advance Autoparts or any power equipment shop for $10) and drain and replace the engine oil.

If you remove the fuel line and only 1/2oz fuel comes out, remove and clean your carburetor, as it most likely has a stuck (OPEN) float.

OK thanks. Will let u know what happens when I get done work

heavyb13 08-03-2013 04:05 PM

OK so I took the gas line off and the little's bit of gas can out not much so cleaning the Carb right now

heavyb13 08-04-2013 08:02 PM

The Carb wasn't dirty at all and the floats were working right. So what now?

blueboy5000 08-05-2013 03:15 PM

well if you have ruled out the stuck float, and the fuel petcock, then there should be no reason you have gasoline in the oil other than it simply flooded. Drain and refill the oil.

heavyb13 08-05-2013 09:58 PM

OK the tag under the seat said 10 w 40 and the case says 15 w40

heavyb13 08-05-2013 09:58 PM

blueboy5000 08-06-2013 08:03 AM
