I'm new and I've already crashed
 

Hi all,
I'm new to this forum. Also new to scootering. I met a gaggle of guys standing around their scooters in a parking lot here in Lincoln, Ca a couple of months ago. They gave me a lot of insights about scooters and also introduced me to this site. Love it.

Since then I've been perpetually either on this site or exploring craigslist for scooters or the internet for more info. Wow

I've taken the motorcycle safety training class at my local community college, got my permit and three days ago I bit the bullit and bought my first scooter. It's a beauty. I bought a 2003 Honda Reflex 250.

Yesterday afternoon I took it out for my 3rd scoot about the neighborhood, came home and bashed into the back end of my wife's car:ugh:. Not exactly a part of the game plan ehh? Later I'll probly be able to laugh at myself:lmao:, but right now, not so much.

This is the part where I ask for HEEEELP!!!! I'm a retired carpenter. I want to remove the damaged body panel and use fiberglass to repair it. I don't have an owner's manual yet and not certain about the procedure for removing the panel for repair.

The damaged panel is called the front cover or it's also been desribed as the front member below and wrapping around the fairing/headlights where the turn signals are mounted. Any advice you can give will be appreciated.

Fiberglass and cloth... or JB Weld lol

Sadly I have to admit I Jb Welded my scoots front end back together. It was cracked in half.. literally right down the middle when I got the scoot. And being that scootin was mainly a CHEAP fun hobby for me, I used what I had sitting around the shop.

What I did was I made the cut/crack cleaner by cutting it straight and the ground the edges to a V shape so they butt up like this ><

Sand the area & then put the jb weld on both sides, let cure , then sand exterior smooth.Do another coat on inside so it grabs more material(strength). Its not the best repair method but it works. Ive done hundreds of wheelies where the front end violently slams back down into the pavement and it is still in one piece as of today.

Don't feel too bad. (we've had people run over their own foot with their own scooter) :doh:

I like to use the epoxy bondo that comes with the cloth at wal mart http://bondo.com/bondo-fiberglass-re...r-kit-420.html i use it all the time to repair crack plastic has for any broken tabs jb weld

Thanks everybody for all the responses. I'll be using some JB weld and maybe some fiberglass too. I did look at cheapcycleparts.com last night but couldn't quite tell about the assembly bating order. I'll check it out again at the described address. I'll be making more posts to let you know about my progress. thanks again. :tup:

Oooops is right. I STILL don't know exactly how I did that.:nuts: I've been on the internet all day collection info and stuff to fix my wife's "cage". This is live and learn. Not sure what I did, but I AM sure what I'll do next time. :scoot:
