80cc big bore kit

I just bought a brand new 2015 tao tao thunder and I am curious how long I should wait until I have the bbk installed?

Since you're going to have to break it in again, it really doesn't matter. If you have a warranty that will be voided by the installation it's at your discretion when to do it.

I didn't think so either. But the shop I bought it from is doing the installation of the kit and insist that I put 250 miles on it first. Doesn't really make sense to me. That's why I am asking.

The stock mileage is irrelevant, since the "break in" is about mating the rings to the cylinder, which is all going to be replaced w the BBK anyway.

blueboy is right, the break in is pretty much on your cylinder and piston rings only. When you add a big bore kit you start the break-in process again. Which means you should also switch to a break in oil, or crap non synthetic to help break in the rings right. If the shop you are going to doesnt have break in oil you shouldnt go to that shop, just because they know how to put on parts doesnt mean they are a qualified engine builder, be careful

My delima is there is no other shops in my area that install BBk's. I have only had it since Wednesday afternoon (this is Saturday night ) and I am already having issues with it. The Moped not the bbk. It is Slow!!!! For instance I checked the speedometer against a GPS device and it's 5 miles off at 25 and 10 miles off at 40. It vibrates so much my wife would love it if I would let her ride it. I am wondering if the clutch and or rollers are bad in it. Does anyone have any ideas? My 2007 runs better than this.

As far as I know they didn't change the oil or differential fluid either.

blueboy5000 12-02-2014 04:48 PM

Well I wouldn't rush right to a BBK, not that a BBK is a bad idea, but I've found pretty impressive gains from properly jetted and adjusted carburetor, and a tuned-cvt, and upgraded coil and cdi.

First uprgades I would do would be to the CVT and carb.
