New rider from South Carolina USA

Disabled retired old vet (USAF 1984-1987) just purchased a 2017 Tao Tao Powermax VIP 150cc 157QMJ. Getting her broke in and enjoying the ride. I will be trying to upgrade her to 70 mph top speed (So it can run 60 mph with out killing the little GY6). I am not into going fast just going and fast enough not to be a rolling road block lol. 5'9" 160-165 lbs 32" inseam so the scoot fits real good for me. I have made a few runs and changed the oil/ gear oil around 20 miles. Hit and release the throttle a few times up to 8'500 rpm at 58 mph.
I am just enjoying the ride right now. I live between small towns with low population and wide open roads. That is why i need that top speed to stay ahead of most runs to the next town 50-55 mph. 8 miles in either direction.

Chime in give pointers and have fun.

Fun today. Carried it on a major highway and kept pace with the flow of traffic up to 54 mph (GPS) and had throttle but I think the power is coming around. She was running at 8,000 -8,500 rpm and smooth as could be. I will recheck everything tomorrow and probably change the oil (Being safe). People like it a lot and my son drove her today with a big grin...he wants a sports bike.

I will get the belt spark plug change done after 500-600 miles. Then check on the new performance coil CDI and cold air. If she runs what is needed from there I will be good to go. I did run 45 mph at the start of a small incline and throttled up she ran 50 mph at the top of the incline. Can not get this grin off my face from the ride lol

Changed the plug to the NGK and she runs a little stronger. Rode her Weds. on a 19 mile round trip and she made me sore a little for a day or two. But that is me not the bike. So my plans now are to get her broke in and find the gear ratio i want 15-16-17/36 to get the top speed needed. I want to keep the motor stock until time for a rebuild but will do the variator/belt/plug(Iridium)/exhaust/gear and cold air intake. Just get those gears first the tweak the variator to that sweet spot I need.

My old butt needs to get out and ride to get her broke in good.
