100's at AmeriVespa

While Vespa World Days 2014 had their 10 thousand showing in Italy, New Orleans had their 100's of Vespas at the conclusion of the Scooter CannonBall Run 2014. Clearly, the US has a long way to go for the masses of scootering...

If our US roads were as crowded as the roads in Hanoi or Paris, we would have a lot more scooters. Its a bit of a paradox.

I watched this video for twenty seconds and wanted to scream. Tank tops, flip flops, no gloves. Really? A group ride where one mistake can take down dozens and no leather jackets? If this was a motorcycle rally what would the opinion of any person be?

My thoughts, also. That's why I put it up. If you were to go to the Vespa festival in Italy site, and watched that vid, you don't see that stuff much...

I don't mean to be preachy.....but. Two years ago my wife overshot a curve on her Rebel onto grass. She had on a leather jacket, boots, gloves and a full face helmet. The trooper on the scene complimented her on being so prepared. She scraped a hole in her jacket and sustained road rash on her knee where her blue jeans burned through. Otherwise she just up and walked away. I look at these people and see a disaster in the making with expensive plastic surgery to follow.

My friend long ago was practicing figure 8s and rear slid on a small patch of grass in a crack of cement slab. Scraped up the chin area of his brand new Full Face Bell helmet and tore his leather jacket and scraped up his knee thru his jeans. And that was a slow walking type turn. The very next day I bought my 1st full face helmet...

I have a low tolerance for pain, so I wear ATGATT. Bicycle crash road rash is bad enough.
