Somebody Stop Me!
Bikes are like potato chips. Sometimes you just can't stop. There's a scooter back there someplace.

Is the red one the Nighthawk 250 that you revived?
|
Yes. It needed a carburetor and starter motor but is now humming. Last weekend I rode it 156 miles and it traveled the Interstate quite well. Despite being fifteen years old it rocked the trip. I got 68 mpg from it. Give it to Honda, they build great bikes.

Is the front drum brake noticeably weaker than a disc? I thought the difference between discs and drums may be less noticeable on the light 250 Nighthawk.
|
Yes, there is a noticeable difference between the stopping power on the drum Nighthawk and the disc on the Rebels. I absolutely have to use the front and rear brake on the Hawk to get the most stopping power. The Rebel can be stopped effectively with just the front. I don't understand why they didn't put a disc on the Nighthawk. For an entry level rider it could be the difference between stopping and crashing in an accident.
Plus the Nighthawk feels quicker and could use the added stopping power. |
I don't ever see 250 nighthawks with a rebel fork and disc brake installed. Maybe its because the drum is cable actuated and the swap would involve a great deal of parts.
|
Yes, you would need to get front forks, a wheel set up for the disc, throttle with master cylinder and of course the hydraulic line. I'm not about to go that route on a $500 motorcycle (plus parts put in, of course). The drum works fine while rolling. It's just not as assertive under panic mode or a full stop.

If all your bikes are running and roadworthy, it's time to get more bikes.

It is a dilemma......and you are not alone.
I don't have as many as you.... although, I probably have 3 more than I really need, but what the heck, ya can't take it with ya. There are worse ways to spend your money and your life.....like gambling, booze, drugs, etc. So if bikes are your thing, and bring you joy, go for it. I won't be judging you. |
I didn't intend for it to get so out of control. I bought the red bike to play around with but had serious doubts that it would ever run again. One is actually my daughter's bike and the others were a moment of weakness. I am having fun right now though.

You do not lack will power. Its an addiction.

This past weekend I moved the original scooter in the collection to my new home. That makes six in the garage. One more to move in. Fortunately I have a big shed in the yard to house it.

I guess that I don't understand the whole mentality of things! Everyone talks of the money that they save on mileage but then they spend money on multible bikes. I personaly would rather have one that made me happy & leave my money to our childrens families!:tup: Irish:scoot::nuts:
