Is there any air leaks between the cylinder head and carb? Try some ether on spray while idling, then you can find out if there is a leak

EEither your bbk is made wrong, with to little (none) squish, or, it could be the button end bearing in your conrod.
Try taking the top end of, and feel for clearance...

Did it starte and ride allright with the bb?
The oil could come from your valve cover, head gasket, maybe? ...

I would work the other way arround, because I could have a greater feeling of the Electric contacts, being defect.
