I am with those who like it like it is. If I found something like that I would definitely keep it. But it is your ride and I support almost any mod that does not make it unsafe.
The left brake is the rear brake. I checked the specs and it has hydraulic disc brakes front and rear. I would make sure the fluid is filled in both brakes, then see if the caliper opens and closes when you squeeze the handles, then check the pads.
It looks like a fun ride.
