I've been to one day motorcycle events with over 400. There really has to be some way to stir up interest in scooter events.

Hmm, I've never actually called myself a "scooterist". Anyhow, it would be great to get some really large scooter rallys going, but I think the idea of riding a scooter 300 miles or more to a gathering is virtually unimaginable to a lot of riders. Instead, most gatherings are limited to the 8 or 15 riders that actually ride in a given metro area. Granted there are more riders in most metro areas than that, but a large percentage are riding not because they like it, but because they have to for one reason or another. OTOH, large motorcycle riders don't usually have a problem with doing the longer distance runs..

I might buy that if I thought all those guys rode their scooters. Way too many trailer them those 300 miles. MIC members sold 33,000 scooters last year, Motorcycles sold like 400,000. A rally like Sturgis or Daytona attracts close to 100,000 or more attendees.
So what we're saying then, if I may postulate, is that a scooter is like a substitute vehicle for a car while a motorcycle is a Recreational machine. That might explain a lot.

I went to a rally with less than 100 scoots in Scottsdale.
I'd like to go to a much larger one, like this one in Pattaya Beach, Thailand. I have visited Pattaya Beach for a day, but spent most of my time in the bars. http://modernvespa.com/forum/topic137291

Yeah, for a lot of people, I would say that a scooter subs for their car. To them, it isn't the thing that they do because they want to, it's what they do because they have to. Of course, most of those riders don't join forums, either.

There are a handful of us in here in SE Michigan and getting anymore to come is most of the time is hard to do. We do a lot of local rides to attempt to drum up interest but most of the time its very limited who comes. See others during normal travels but don't know why they don't want to hook up and a great time.

I'm guessing that a lot of people don't go on the longer runs because they are older! I know that in MY case , I can't do the things that I used to because I am an insulin dependent Diabetic! Also I have to take so many pills that you would GAG just thinking about it. Plus I finally realized that you have to take care of your health & not live on Booze & a "who cares" attitude! It only took me 71 yrs to get some sense , so many people don't do the crazy things & pay attention to the things that they should!
