Wire harness and stator questions gy6 50cc

So I have two motors. I want to confirm spark before I go crazy and build a scoot. Mostly want to see if the stator is good. I've seen motors being bench tested but never tried myself. I have a wire harness, coil and cdi. I've connected the cdi coil and red and blk wire for key. Kill switch is unplugged so I believe its "open". Ground on motor to frame. Stator wires plugged in. Battery grd also. Am I missing something? Turn the motor with my drill and no spark. Also tried just a screwdriver without the plug. I fell like I should have spark if the cdi and coil are good. Mostly curious if I have the hook ups right. Or missed something that's needed to confirm spark. Thanks in advance for your time....
