Totaled the 150 - Now what do I build?
Recently was involved in an accident where my scooter ended up basically bouncing down the road. Needless to say, the body is pretty much destroyed.
As far as I can tell, it's pretty much structurally ok, other than steering column damage. I have a sturdy frame, wheels, lights, etc. But mainly, I have a broken in, upgraded, maintained, well running GY6 150. My questions are: can I find a body kit to fit it? It was originally a "Dong-Fang Sunny". Can I find a recipient scooter to put the 150 in? What other scooters (other than 150s) can I fit it in? Are there any other things I can stick it in? (buggies, trikes, mini-bikes, etc.) I have some pretty good stuff I'd like to not waste. What would you all do with it? |

Are you hurt? Sounds like a bad accident. One idea is to rebuild your damaged scoot as a naked scoot, like a Ruckus, with no body panels.

Thanks for the reply and concern. A driver in oncoming traffic made a left turn directly in front of me. No time to stop, but did lay it over and dive off. I slid down the road (got some significant road rash, but no broken bones) and was not on the scooter when it hit the car and bounced.
I was considering this option, but haven't had time to pull all the broken plastic off to see how it would look. I haven't checked, but does the seat hook to the frame? I wasn't sure how to redo the seat with no body panels. Any pics of scooters like this out there? |

If the frame is cool, get a new fork crown, they're $20USD on amazon, and a "Chuckus Box" and then do a naked/chuckus build.

I've been looking into this "naked" build and think I'm going to at least give it a shot and see what it looks like. Does anybody have pics? I mean starting with a typical scooter and stripping it down vs. buying a Chuckus/Ruckus with a bare frame?

If the motor is still solid just hit Craigslist. There are usually a flock of "Chinese scooter-Not Running" ads there.

If this pops open to the thread, I want it to, it's a guy that turned that old ruined Helix into one of my most favorite builds, the second photo down. I have a 150 cc, donor my grandson and I are going to crack into, trying for the skelly look. That starts off with getting rid of the covering plastic. I think we'll just take it apart instead of your way, LOL! Best to ya.
