Check this women's blog out, she posted pictures of scooters in Vietnam. AMAZING, I'll never complaint about carrying groceries on scooter.

This is nothing more than a way of life for those folks.
When I was stationed in the Philippines, I saw this all the time, back in the late 60's
They do what has to be done.
And, they're good at it.

French and Asian are a great mix)

I have heard Hanoi described as the scooter capital of the world. Plenty of scooters on their streets.
