Egad! I've been getting anywhere from 75-80mpg even during break-in and after adding a windshield.

Something is amiss. I would run a few tanks through, measure your gas carefully and recalculate before going on a full panic.

One thing I have learned is to look around for a gas station that serves you best. My bike is a PITA to fill; I splash gas everywhere if I don't find a friendly pump. Also, if you use premium, look for a station with a hose for each grade. If there's just a single hose, the first gas that comes out is whatever was left after the last guy filled up. It doesn't make much difference if you are filling a 20 gallon tank, but when you are adding right around a gallon, you could be easily mixing a good percentage of your tank with lower octane fuel at premium prices.
