tao tao 50
i bought a chinese gy6 clone tao tao scoot a few months back, my manual says use valvoline 10-40 scooter oil but i dont like valvoline, i know its different but i work in a quick lube shop and we dont like valvoline, would it be ok to find another 10-40 4 stroke oil? i plan on switching to amsoil when its broken in. also how can i open up my air intake without choking out the motor? stupid new stock carb has no adjuster screw. im sure this has been covered but im brand new to forums and have no idea how to find out?

I used rotella 15w40 in my tao tao. Worked good. I untamper proofed my carb and upjeted it to a 85 main jet and installed a uni filter. Ran great for 20000 chinometers until I got rear ended by a distracted driver.

15-40 is ok. 10-40 is ok too. It is a matter of personal preference. Any quality brand oil will be fine. Synthetic or dino, don't matter as much as some will think. Most important is regular oil changes of the quality oil of your choice,IMHO.

134qmb is the 64mm valve and the 1p39qmb is the 69mm valve as I understand it.

Ok cool and I saw earlier you untamperproofed your carb and did an 85 jet when you did an aftermarket airfilter, would I wanna do those both at the same time to avoid air fuel issues?

Just dont use motorcycle oil, i recommend bel-rey or amsoil synthetic scooter oil, its developed for air cooled scooters, thats all we run and a lot of our scooters are over 40000km

Oh definitely I'm still breaking it in so I'm gonna use Dino still but I was thinking of using the 4stroke 10w40 then moving to the amsoil synthetic after break in

If installing a open type or hi flow air filter a upjet is required. The same goes for a performance exhaust system. Stock carbs tend to be jetted lean from the factory to begin with. Air filter and exhaust mods increase air flow through the combustion chamber of the engine, thus rejetting is needed to satisfy the increased fuel demands of more air. How much of a retted is needed? That is variable upon the individual engine. I tried a 80 first and was to small. A 88 was to big . A 85 jet worked prefectly in my paticular scooters setup.
