New CDI and coil

So I broke down and decided to replace the CDI and Coil. Spark plug also while I was at it.

I went for a package deal on the CDI and Coil and got the orange performance ones.

First off I had real doubts as to the 'Performance parts' but after an adjustment to the carb I have to admit these part really make a big difference.

The Idle is smoother and the new timing curve really is a pick me up.

The parts I used are listed below.

CDI and Coil

Spark Plug set to .22ths

All in all it is worth the money.

Did these upgrades affect your mileage at all? I asked my dealer, and he said that I wouldn't see and major improvements. My 150 already has no rev limiter. I was looking for more top end, though, and he may have been relating it to that.

I'd like anything that might give me an extra couple mpg.

A hot coil and aggressive CDI are indeed the easiest way to get noticeable gains in performance.

So which method(s) did you use to determine whether your engine is AC or DC fired? I am scared to use the wrong CDI in my scooter (I read a horrific forum post somewhere regarding basically ruining an engine from using the wrong CDI)...

You match the plugs with pictures. Also, most are ac and smaller than the dc in physical size. Good dealers will put measurements of cdi in the ad. My 150 I determined was ac, as most are, and I upgraded to one with no rev limiter. I can tell a big difference in take off and at least 5 mph on top end. Still need to check it with gps. Cost me 10 bux.

It says dc. Most 150 cc are ac. Make sure you look at yours first and match the dimensions to an ad that gives dimensions. That's how I did it. The ac is actually a smaller unit, physically.

Okay, so let's say that I buy the wrong one. Will it damage the scooter if I mistakenly put it in? Or will it just not start? I'm gonna do my best, but I'm confused because my headlights come on with the key, but it says that most are AC and an email from a tech support rep from Baja (who seemed a little confused about my model), said that the wiring diagram indicated AC.........

Update: My 2009 Baja SC150 is definitely AC, based off of the size of the box and the number of wires in the 2-wire harness (there are two). Just to update in case another Baja owner is curious.
