Terrible Startup Sound

Hey scootdawgs, can anyone identify the origin of this awful sound coming from my scooter upon startup? I've tried to do research online and nothing seems to be relative. It's a GY6 150cc Vento Phantom R4I / 4 Stroke. Link to vid below -

Tysm for any help in advance.

That sounds like the starter motor has bad bushings. It could be deeper in the CVT but it sounds like the starter itself.

That is the distinct sound of a Chinese motor starter working too hard.

As to why it's working too hard, take your pick:
1. Starter motor bearings shot (as previously suggested)
2. Crank shaft bearings shot
3. Broken rings/seized piston
4. Crank shaft bent

Thanks for the reply, Shadowfire. Yeah, when I start it, the sound seems like it's coming from the starter so I'll replace that tomorrow and post the results. I'll check the piston and rings as well but as for the crank shaft, I've never dove that deep and don't have the experience to properly and confidently do so in this short time I have ;( hoping it's not that

Thank you both, guys. You were spot on. Replaced the starter and everything's all good. It only sucked cause I actually had a starter I bought in the past up at my gf's house but I had no way to get there and had work in a few hours. Ended up buying one for $45 from a local shop. Not too bad I suppose. Cheers 8)

Nice to hear you got it going.

45 bucks isn't too bad. Better than it could have been...
