Question Electric Start

Hey guys.

My electric start NEVER starts my bike anymore. Won't even turn over or make a sound at all when engaging the electric start (its completely silent). Yes, the battery is charged (brakes + blinkers work), and I have a brand new spark plug, but nothing. After 6-12 strikes with the kick start, it fires up and runs perfectly. But it never cranks with the electric start anymore. Any ideas?

It's a 2014 Kymco Agility 125 (less than 6,000km on the bike)

Thanks!

I don't feel your pain. I have a 2006 Sportster 1200 w/ a DMC Trike Kit. I would LOVE to have a kickstart! I only have an electric start. In NH , every bike that I had , had only a kickstarter. I've been riding since I was 15 (73 now) & I always managed to get a bike home as long as I had a kickstarter. With an electric starter ,you're out of luck if your battery is dead! Irish

Yes, the kickstart is great in those situations. But, I would like to resolve this issue and have my electric start functioning again. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Get a wiring diagram a test light or multi-meter and start testing the starting circuit. It's a simple circuit. You can also jump the terminals on the starter relay ... if it cranks the problem is in the circuit that activates the relay or the relay it's self. Think of it this way ... 12 volt to the fuse then to the ignition switch, switch on then 12 volt to the brake stop light switch squeeze the brake lever then 12 volt to the starter button, push the button ... then 12 volts to the relay ... which will close and allow 12 volts from the big battery wire to connect the big wire to the starter ... and she starts cranking. If the starter itself is bad ... one way to test that would be to jump directly with jumper cables to the starter wire or amperage draw. This is a good learning experience, something you'll use one way or another the rest of your life.
