rebuild gone somewhat wrong need help!!!

so i had to rebuild half of my top end because i fried the valves (long story) anyways when i unmounted my 157qmj motor i guess i disconnected a ground wire that comes from the grounding terminal so when i tried to start it it would not fire and the wires heated up and started smoking some. there doesn't seem to be any damage but i need to know where this ground hooks to so i can get my scoot on the road again asap

The engine ground cable is usually attached by one of the valve cover bolts.

check to make sure the camshaft and crankshaft are lined up properly. Also valve clearance. If all that is correct I'd shut the fuel off to the carb, to make sure it isn't flooded and see if it will start a bit using some carb cleaner into the throat of the carb.
