I hate electrical gremlins so bad! I always concede. I know this isn't the answer you're looking for but this is what I do. I strip as much plastic off as possible and take it to an electrical specialist. I Virginia Beach, VA I use Tidewater Auto Electric. Yes, they work on motorcycles (they fixed my CBR900RR when I had a crazy random short zapping all my lights, and scooters like my Helix when the dash just went blank but it ran totally normal and a few other random 2 wheel electrical issues. They charge by the hour and the diagnostic fee will apply toward the repair if you so choose.

Some better motorcycle shops also have an electrical guru on hand that can figure something out pretty quick. You'd think that me messing with these things for around 40 years I'd know electrical but that's one skill I've never mastered. You've gotten MUCH FURTHER than my useless butt could ever do with trying to trouble shoot electrical gremlins!
