stator problem

today i replaced the stator on my 150cc gy6 scooter. it ran good for a few minutes but i parked it after i noticed an unusual sound coming from the stator, while it was idling it died. I could not get it to start again just kept trying to crank. i removed the stator to check it and noticed some oil on it and some minor damage on one of the coils. does anyone have any thoughts on what may be causing this?
