great scooter just died on way home

i was toolin along on my taotao 50 yesterday (it was running great, as usual for initial 8k miles) when the engine started revving VERY high, it lost power & died. any suggestions as to possible problem(s)? any help would be greatly appreciates as this is my only transportation.

i was asked on another forum whether the scooter would start. yesterday it didn't. but, today, when i went to get it with a pickup... it DID! yay. started again when i got home but i'm VERY hesitant to ride it anywhere. don't want to go through the same experience.

thanks, rich

check your belt and clutch assembly, it might have been slipping and overheating the engine

You could've soft seized the motor also. Not a tough fix for a good DIYer pull the jug and get new rings. Before that though do a vompression check and see if it's that or maybe just aa electrical engineering Robles. Sometimes you can burn a coil like that but since you said it did fire up most likely not.
