Airbox filling with oil 150cc gy6

Hi,
so I overfilled my scooter with oil and caused an oil leak. i thought i blew some seals or gaskets but came to realize that the oil was coming out of the valve cover breather since it had a hole in it. I cut that off and cleaned the oil soaked air filter then gave it a test ride. Mind you I did not let the air filter dry over night. I "blew" dried the air filter and went for a test ride and there is oil all over the place again. not coming out of the valve breather because i cut that part of the hose off. is it the filter or is something else going on? the oil is all dripping down from the air box. no other leaks apparently. i took the air box off and cleaned it. it was full of oil and fuel. the clear tube filled right back up with oil and over flowed. i am sure the air filter is soaked with oil again. The snorkel going to the carb has no oil in it so obviously it isn't leaking from the egr. although the egr clamp isn't on properly. i doubt that has anything to do with it though. If it was coming from the cvt case hose into the air box id have to assume that it would also be leaking out of the cvt case since when i changed the belt last time i didn't put a new gasket on but that side is completely clean.all the oil is dripping from under the airbox down onto the engine so i say it is coming from the valve breather. My air filter is possibly still clogged could that cause it? what else could cause oil to go into the air box in excess?

well amidst the abundance of fml one seemingly good thing happened, i found an old air filter which in comparison to the current is beyond half way decent and its dry!

There is a crankcase ventilation tube connecting the airbox to the engine. What happens is, during ignition, some gases will blow by the piston rings to inside the crankcase. When your oil level is above one of the crankcase ventilation ports (which would not happen unless it was overfilled), the gases will force oil out and into the airbox.

The clear hose is meant to trap any oil that gets kicked up during normal operation (the crankcase ventilation is SUPPOSED to be rerouted to the airbox so any unspent fuel gets burned), but since the engine has been overfilled, the oil is finding its way there.

Drain some oil with the oil drain plug, then recheck your oil level with the dipstick. The interiors of all the ventilation tubing now have a coat of oil, and it may be a while before it is all expelled.

thanks for the reply but I already drained and filled the oil. in fact so much oil leaked out that I had to refill it twice on the way home. I am now suspecting bad piston rings at the suggestion of someone else. so if it is the piston rings is she a goner or do i simply replace the rings?

Based upon your provided info, most likely you have damaged the oil control ring. Possibly even collapsed it.

Of course the only way to know is to pull the engine apart and look. However, if you do that, and have not BBKd the engine, now would be a good time for an upgrade.

What the break in period for a bbk?

you should do a hard break in. Google it.
I would suggest for the first couple hundred of miles make short trips no more then 10 miles. Break in period is a total of 1500 miles and make sure you use regular oil and not synthetic during break in. Its very important.
