The reason that I suggested the tape is that you can eventually remove & replace it. With sealant , you have to remove it the next time that you take the plug (drain plug) out. Removing sealant can be a bitch! Irish

Thanks for the replies.
Does no one make a superior washer, other than aluminum. I was thinking of something like the ones I have for my daughter's RAV4, that appear to be a fibrous paper on an aluminum core.
