New joiner saying "hello".....,

Hello!

I'm a 27 year old engineer from Yorkshire UK, I'm just getting into scooters as an ultra cheap commuting vehicle. I've gone for a Pulse Lightspeed 2, as its cheap, doesn't look too ugly, and I did my CBT on a Pulse Scout 50, that had done about 5k miles, been dropped a few times, and generally abused by learners, and was still running, so I'm happy with Pulse as a manufacturer.

From flicking through the interwebs, it seems there's two distinct groups of opinions WRT Chinese peds: one groups owns them, mostly finds them ok, and has found a couple of problems that are easily solved. And the other group has absolutely no experience of them and instantly assumes that "made in china=rubbish". I'm not really interested in hearing from the second group.

The few common problems I've gleaned from the interwebs about the LS2 have been: rollers flattening off if not bedded in properly before "ragging it", an unidentified squeak from the back end (usually caused by cheap brake pads, but can be suspension pivots) and vacuum lock in the fuel tank.

Does anyone know of any regular niggles with Pulse bikes, specifically the Lightspeed 2? Any other general "ped care" tips would be greatly welcomed also!

I own all maner of scoots chinese italian etc and ive found that the biggest problem with chinese scoots is the owner
Most dont know what there are getting into as some of these chinese scoots are of lower quality then they dont do the proper maintenance and they then complain when the scoot breaks down
My Puma and my Redstreak are chinese scoots that were very well made and of good quailty
Im not familiar with your scoot so im sorry to say i cant be of much help with info specific to your scoot
But a well mantained scoot is a happy scoot and consenquently that makes for a happy owner and rider

Thanks for the reply.
Having had a flick through, I think this forum is more US orientated, and I'm not sure if the Lightspeed 2 is being sold out there: due to licensing laws our "size bands" are slightly different, in that 50cc and 125cc are the "small" engines, where as yours are the 50 and 150?
From what I've read, it's a copy of the Peugeot Speedflight 100 (aesthetics wise) built around a restricted GY6 engine (which gives you guys an extra 25cc over what I can ride on my licence).
So the general gist for Chinese peds is, "look after it" then?

Though most of the members are mainly USA based we do have some from the UK Germany China Canada etc so stay around
And yes any scoot even my Aprilia Sr 50 R Factory would not be road worthy or in good shape if i didnt give her the proper maintenance on a regular basis

hello & welcome
as hank said Chinese scoots GY-6s are of lower quality but
with proper care they can go for a long time w/o major problems
as you can see i have a few miles, yes thats MPH NOTKPH

I own both a Japanese and a Chinese scooter. The fit and finish is far superior on the Suzuki. That being said the Jonway I have is reliable and I have no complaints besides the fit and finish. For 3700 miles it got the job done. Hope you love yours and you got a good set of tools you'll need em no matter what you get 2 wheelers are different most like to do their own maintenance.

Howdy Ian, from across the pond! Wow Yorkshire, that's Diana Rigg territory! I hope you really enjoy scootin' as much as we do. (love surprising Chinese detractors with what my "deathtrap" can do.) Thanks all.

And Terilee: that link has officially been added to my bookmarks! It's not a crate job, and "should" receive an inspection from the shop, but, yeah, I'll definitely be working through that on a spare day inside the first 50-100 miles for my own piece of mind!

Yeah, helmet, gloves and armoured jacket were included in the finance package I got, so they'll be here with the scoot tomorrow.

It still amazes me that it's legal to ride without a lid in the US, and amazes me even more that people choose not to. Fortunately the Nanny State that is the UK does have its up sides.
