Help! Broke down again.

50cc tao tao clone.

Was coming home after picking up my daughter from work. It made a loud grind Sound, slowed down to a stop, shut off, and would not crank back up. It turns over but will not start. Had to push it home about a mile.

When trying to start it my daughter noticed some smoke but we couldn't pinpoint where it came from. Could be from an oil leak I'm working on.

Took off the CVT cover and everything seems fine. Belt it good. Clutch is fine. Variator is working.

What could it be? This is my only ride so I need to diagnose it quick so I can go to work.

One odd thing I found was around the variator was this weird material that wasn't there before.
