Something inside your cvt or it was lose and made contact with cvt cover. So far it has happened twice with mine. On my starter clutch the spring and metal cylinder feel out and wreck havoc on my cvt once and another i bought a after market variator and the stock drive boss was to large and let the drive face out two far with the larger cooling fins and went to start it and heard a loud clunk, and there goes about five fan blades

Most common reason is usually missing or worn out variator guide bushings. Then the backplate rubs and vibrates against the guide posts breaking them off eventually.
