150cc gy6 only starts if its on its side leaning.

Why is it that for my scooter to start up, it needs to be on its side, or if i lean it left or right while pressing the start button. I have a 61mm bore kit on it. 30mm carb 125 main jet. Intake and exhaust. New starter, petcock and fuel filter. Its a chinese 150cc bws.

I take it to mean that the starter will turn the engine over no matter what position the scooter is in.....it just has to be leaned to get it running. If so, I don't see how it could be anything other than that big ole 30mm carb. Leaning one way or another isn't going to affect any electrical component, so that only leaves fuel....and the only thing fuel related, other than how much gas is in the tank, that leaning would affect, is the fuel in the bowl of your carb.

Then leave it. Sometimes it's better to live with a strange habit than upset the apple cart. If it runs fine, isn't fouling plugs and only needs to be leaned over to start, leave it alone. Years ago many bikes have to have that done to offset carburetor's tendency to flood. The Greeves Scrambler comes to mind.

I'm near Binghamton but one of my scooters came from North Babylon. My buddy in Massapequa held it until I could go down to get it. I grew up in Levittown. Moved here in 2001 from Brooklyn.
