New Guy

Hi everyone,

My name is Eric and I bought my first scooter. It is a 2012 VIP Future Champion 49cc by TAO TAO. I have ridden it short distances to get used to the feel. I noticed a couple of things. The speedometer seems to get stuck at 20mph but feels like I am going faster. Im guessing a new speedometer cable is needed. Also I know people are going to say I should have just bought a higher CC if I wanted the extra speed. Is there a kit that anyone would recommend to help increase speed? Look forward to becoming more involved in the forum community.

Thanks,

Eric

There are many big bore kits out there that will increase the size up to like 100cc. You may have to do extensive modifications to the case to go to large sizes. My understanding is that many 50cc scooters are already 62cc especially if it says P in front of 139QMB on your engine. Just search engine 50cc Big Bore kits.

Welcome Eric. I'm sorry but I can't help you much with scooter questions. If you have any motorcycle questions , Perhaps I can help. I specialized in Triumphs if that helps you any. I'm like you. I'm slowly learning about scooters. The only thing that bothers me is the lack of power that I'm used to. Irish
P.S. I tried a 250cc but that wasn't enough. I now ride a 2006 Sportster 1200 w/ Trike Kit.

Welcome to the forum. Google "de-restricting 50cc scooters" and you will find many articles and videos. Try that first as it will add 10mph or so to your top speed.
