carburator bowl dry

my scooter is always hard to start if I don't start it every day.usually I have to choke it by putting my hand over the intake.i put on a pipe and put in a bigger jet and my bowl and filter are dry.squited gas threw the intake and started right up.i have a vacuum fuel pump and was wondering if this is the problem or do I have to prime my carb by filling the bowl with gas.i replaced the fuel pump six or seven months ago.

A very common ailment. That's why all the parts sellers have so many in stock. You can cover the crack with silicon sealer until the new one arrives.
