Pissed 2013 Icebear Mini Cruzzer

I own a 2013 Ice bear Mini Cruzzer. It has almost 4,700 miles on it and I smelled gasoline. So, I checked underneath the trike and the tank was wet. At first, I thought it was the petcock, but I found a drip of fuel on the oppisite side of the tank. What would be the best way to fix it?

Plastic tank or metal? I've heard of plastic tanks swelling from the ethanol in the gasoline but have never seen a example of it happening enough to make a tank leak. I'd pull the tank if necessary and see were the leak is coming from and if possible, what caused it. It could just be a bad seam weld.

Also, could it be a bad gas cap gasket? I've had them get dry rotted and let a bit of gas leak out while gas was splashing around in the tank.

Smile Gas tank

The tank is metal and it's a PIA to find a replacement. So, I'm gonna try JB Weld: Tank Weld. It's been a loyal scooter for the last 6 years.

We've completely dried out fuel tanks before and had splits and other damage brazed. Also used that Kreem tank sealant with mixed results. Both require you to remove the tank from the scooter and on some (Burgman scooters) it be a royal PITA. Also seen mixed results with JB Weld BUT I've heard a rumor they (JB Weld) sell a fuel resistant "tank seal" kit.

So you found that there is a split causing the leak? If so, any idea what caused it? My Burgman had a leak where the fuel meter float went into the tank. I think a gasket failed. The tank gets slightly pressurized while running and fuel would seep out. I never fixed it because of the tank location.

Let us know your findings.

Gas tank

I already purchased Tank Weld for it. I have to remove the tank and clean it. Hopefully, I can repair it.

I removed the tank and it was the petcock. The tank is okay. The rubber gasket fell apart after 11 years.

I've seen those petcock gaskets rot out and fail before. Glad it wasn't something more serious or problematic to fix.
