What is this for?

I have watched a lot of online videos in taking off the CVT/ clutch cover. none looked like mine. I have this plastic cover/ cap over the variator. What is it for?

My bike has a cover like that. It is called the belt case air cleaner cover. If I take it off, the back side has a filter element attached. The reverse side of the fixed drive face of the variator has sort of fan blades in it.
