Scooter withdrawal

Took my last scoot ride of the season 16 days ago.....already miss it, and have at least 145 days to go before I can even think about riding it again. It is not the colder temps that stop me, but rather the spreading of rock salt, and the resulting corrosion. Will take a few good late April rains to rinse the salt from the roads, before I venture out again.

Have some PM to do, and a couple of upgrades to lights and such....but it's going to be a long winter, and I'm suffering withdrawal symtoms only 16 days in.

We got a good shower over here two or three days ago and it washed off the salt from the weekend. Yesterday before the snow hit I braved the 31* temps and did some shopping on the 50cc bike. It started snowing about an hour after I got home and now there's salt, slush and snow on the roads. I too am parked for awhile.

Funny, but this sort of thing was brought up in another forum regarding posting messages (or a lack thereof) and the effect of the coming winter. This is what I said:

Well, with winter severely cramping our riding style up here in the north, we are sure to post more here since we would apparently have more time to do so. But just be aware that they will often start off as expressions of regret for not riding more when the weather was more favorable, then anxieties of the coming winter will have print on pages. Anger, then rage when it shows up, disgust when it blasts with the cold & piles on the snow, then cursing with the abject agony of the dark and relentless cold that permeates EVERY day and stays far, far too long. Then expressions of fear that they are loosing their minds and just can't take the winter any more will be a very common meme. Then talks of how they feel saved from that just in time when a sunny day makes a rare appearance. Then it will be a lot of talk of the longing for spring and the giddiness to see longer daylight time and evidence of melting snow and ice....... Well, you get the picture. We are going to whine about it... a lot probably... happens every year...must be in our DNA or something.

I got my last ride in on Tuesday. But I do keep it ready to roll out of my pole building IF an odd nice day happens along during winter. Also a good time to add upgrades!!
Dial a jet is on my list for this winter. I'd really like to ride out to Colorado this year.

I just got back from a grocery store run, it's cold and the salt is everywhere. I spray my scoot with anti rust spray before winter. I typically ride all Winter to work, but will take the bus on a snowy day if necessary.

Thumbs Up

Bandito2, perhaps we should work up a 7 steps of withdrawal chart, and how best to combat them... Of course, I solved the problem for myself.. I moved to Las Vegas, NV 30 years ago from the northern tier.. Threw away my snowmobile suit.

I feel your pain. Winter came in furiously here in Minnesota, far earlier than anyone predicted. I missed my scooting terribly after the first snows. There's been one melt-off and I went out for 20 minutes or so. It was still terribly cold.

It's supposed to be in the upper 40s this weekend, and I'll be ready.

Oh I'll be be medicating my winter scooter withdrawal symptoms with a little bit of Florida sunshine real soon. I'll be loading up my 2006 Reflex onto my truck like I did a couple years ago with my 2007 Reflex Sport and will be leaving Michigan the 28th of this month and won't be back until the 13th (or so) of Jan. (see pictures below)

And I will repeat the treatment with a second dose of the same in the first week of March as well. No, it won't cure the illness, but it will sure make the malady more tolerable. That should hold me well enough until spring.
