Please help.... Is this a good deal?

2013 sym citycom 300i.... $1500.00 11k miles. Missing floorboard. I guess the guy the owned it, took it out to allow for more legroom. He has since passed and the lady doesn't know where it is. I hope I can find the replacement.

So I got the 2013 Sym Citycom 300i scooter for $1500.00... that was talked down from $1850. I feel sorry for the lady because I think it she wanted it gone to help her grieving process. She knew it was worth 3k, but happily got rid of it. I am very lucky.

I rented a motorcycle trailer to pick it up today. Watched a youtube video of how to strap it down and got it home without a hitch (no pun). I got a little scared taking it off of the trailer when I almost lost it backing it down, but I recovered and hopped on.

(Note to self. this scooter will not start with the side stand down. Duh!)

As far as the scooter, so far, I am very pleased. Obviously, I feel like I got a great deal. Besides the floorboards being missing, the battery needing charging (done) and it likely needs some other routine maintenance, as best as I can tell, it runs perfectly.

Keep in mind, this is like my first motorized cycle ever and i am 47 so I have like zero experience and knowledge of anything about scooters never mind motorcycles. So here are some observations....

1. Its big. Not too big for me once I get used to it, its just not a small scooter which of course, you all know.

2. Its fast. I mean I was getting on it and I had tons to spare.

3. The headlights seem dim to me. The blue high beam indicator is way too bright....I am thinking about some black electrical tape.

4. Its a nice looking bike except the floorboards being missing.

5. Ride was comfortable even for me being 6'2 250 although I do wish the seat was flat going back. I am wondering to myself if that is something that can be customized because if it was, it would be great.

6. Oh and those are the loudest blinkers I have ever heard.

That's it....I feel very fortunate to have gotten it so cheap. Especially since I never get deals like this. i have lots to learn about maintenance and riding. I am taking the msf course on July 11th. ....and I need to get a helmet.

Rich Carman had one before he passed away and LOVED it. He spoke of seeing 90 mph and exceptional stability on the road. You didn't just get a good deal, you got a fabulous deal. It could be the only scooter you ever own as SYM builds a Japanese quality machine. Ride well and have a Ball.

OMG...That's the scooter I bought! I swear! That is crazy. She told me he posted on here but I had no idea someone would mention his actual name nor did I know his user name. The only reason I know that is him is that I recognize his last name from the title. We pulled out all of his medication out from under the seat. He was obviously very sick. I am very humbled.

Well, RIP, Rich, you passed on your scooting legacy! I will do my best to uphold it.

Chelsea, Alabama.

He was the Admin at Scooterdoc. He had diabetes and passed from sudden kidney failure. If you go over to Scooterdoc maybe member Cookies knows what happened to the parts or could hook you up with new ones. It was Cookies personal scoot and he sold it to Rich. Cookies was an SYM dealer.

At Scooterdoc Rich posted as Bashan.

Rich wasn't so much into the plastic, sleek look as he was into ease of maintenance. He probably put his feet on the metal frame tubing. He loathed having to spend long minutes removing plastic covers to get at maintenance items and went with the "Naked" look on all his scooters.

Thanks...

I read quite a few of his previous posts over there. Sounds like he was a bit of a legend of this community! I am deeply respectful of his passing and I appreciate the welcoming spirit from everyone.

I actually read that he liked to keep his scooter "naked" so now I am understanding a bit more. I may even keep it that way, but I can barely check the oil. I hope I can find someone to help me keep this thing in tune.

Anyway, my condolences to those that loved Rich, especially to his wife, Sue.

Yes. Rich started out with two 150cc crate scooters and learned everything the hard way. Ultimately he became a Guru and wasn't afraid to take things apart to see how they worked. He understood the electrics like no one I've ever seen before. He and I corresponded many times and I was shocked to hear he was gone. I had e-mailed him a few days before and he said nothing so I know the kidney failure was swift. I wanted to send Sue a letter but I am still just blown away.
His last words to me:

Don't change who you are. You are indeed a fiery guy with an explosive nature. You're also highly intelligent with a lot of riding experience. You're a great asset to the forum but more than that a great friend. I'm glad things are back on an even keel. At around 60 years old we're not going to change who we are, maybe we can just adapt. I've did a lot of that and it's difficult, but sometimes we have to. I hope things work out at home, that's paramount right now. Rich

I'm not friends with the current Admin so without Rich there I've bid Scooterdoc goodbye. I still have the Doc T Shirt Rich gave me but I haven't had an occasion to wear it.

You're riding the wheels of a Legend. Treat it well.
