Cracked crankcase breather tube on a Honda Reflex
I was trying to service the crankcase breather on my 04 Reflex, and while trying to remove the plug it cracked. Now that I think about it I noticed a hairline crack before I started. I'm not really familiar with what its function is, or the consequences of the crack. In any case, I'd like to replace it. Where would I find a replacement? I'm assuming I could find the right size hose somewhere. Thanks for your help.

The plug is there to release muck that collects from the engine moisture and oil combining. Just replace the hose with something similar and open it periodically to empty out the material that collects in there. It being broken is not life threatening.

Does it necessarily need to be air tight at the moment, or could I drive without it harming anything? And thank you for your quick reply. I guess I just need to figure out what size I need now.
Edit: Seeing lots of white 'smoke' from the exhaust -- noticed that last time I was riding which I thought was just due to a lot of moisture in the air (dense fog and air stagnation), but dunno if it's caused, or worsened, by the broken drain tube. Last edited by lux; 11-29-2015 at 10:27 PM. |

I think that most of these puke tubes are on the FILTERED side so your engine is probably sucking unfiltered air.

In a pinch... Clean it and give it a wrap of Duct tape it until you can scrounge a short piece of hose that will fit. Not a big deal really.
Hardware store might have something or one of the big box lumber stores like Home Depot... you might have to buy a foot of it though. Not sure of the ID (inner diameter) or wall thickness so the existing clamps might not fit. Small typical worm gear/screw type clamps or zip ties might work well enough.

The tube is just releasing crud deposits through the crankcase breather into the bottom of the air box. Considering that engine breathers ran open for decades it really isn't a big deal. Exhaust blow white in cold weather anyway so it might just be that you're paying attention to it and seeing it. That hose being open or cracked won't change the way an engine runs.

Thanks for all the help guys, and for putting my mind at ease! I was able to find some rubber tubing which fit, so I stuck that on there and all is well. And yeah, the exhaust was only water evaporation which cleared up after a few minutes so I was just being a hypochondriac. Cheers.
