Which scooter to buy?
I need transportation and am getting paid about $400 in 2 days. I am looking to purchase a used 49cc Chinese scooter.
I'm just having trouble deciding which model is best? I live in Vegas so there are a lot of used Chinese scooters. So are there particular models/frames that are better than others? Or are all the frames the same just different plastics? Is it worth paying 500 for a long case 12in wheel model vs 350 for a 10in one? Can one install bigger forks and a long case to convert to 12in? The most common one I find for cheap is the VIP model so that would be the cheapest. I'm going to be using the scooter for food delivery to make living/replace transmission in tdi Jetta. So it will be run pretty hard. Any help knowing what to look for would be great. Thanks. |

i owned 3 VIP scooters, 2 50cc and one 150cc.
all worked and road excellent. There are also many replacement parts available that fits perfectly. any scooter you buy, the secret is run premium gas at all times. the carbs get gummed up easy. If this happens, it easy to fix. thanks |

So does 12in wheel vs 10in not make much difference? Are basically all the Chinese scooters built with the same stiffness of frames?

I'm 6ft and ride a large frame scooter. It is 2x as comfortable than the 10" small scooter I used to have. I was pretty squished up in the small scooter. Much more leg room and relaxed fit with a larger frame. An old Scootdawg member told me years ago to put a cap of seafoam in with every tank and premium gas and I never had a gummed up carb. Also, to be seen by cars on side streets as well as cars in front of me I got a very cheap led light from ebay, and as you can see, got a piece of aluminum bar at Home Depot, cut and bent it and riveted it on, then got some strong 3M two sided tape to attach the strip to the bar pieces. I also got a more powerful LED headlight bulb, halogen. So with my LED I now only have the High Beam and the LED, but that works even at night. You can try getting a more powerful halogen than what you have, but test with a voltmeter the battery before and after you connect it to make sure its not drawing to much. I haven't had any trouble with my current scooter(Piaggio Typhoon50cc) or with my first Quinqi 50cc scooter with LED light battery draw. The Pic shows the light from the LED strip broken up, but it is really bright all the way across.

WeWell I found a long case zummer model that I am thinking about picking up tomorrow for $425. It's a clone of the Honda zoomer x and it's the body style that I like most on the 50cc scooters. BTW how much drag you getting from that windshield?

Drag? Lets put it this way: if its raining or pouring down or cold and windy the windscreen makes a 85% difference on you feeling miserable or not.

I might try a windshield if I get a big bore kit. Anyways today is the day, the suspense is real in the search for cheap transportation!

Well I wound up getting a brand new 150cc Zuma clone. It's a little tall but is really peppy in town.

Thought you were looking for a 49? Gotta have a motorcycle license and insurance for anything over in VA. Plus can only go 35mph. You should have been looking for a 150 from jump.
