Yeah, that was a painful read. Yet if I had to make a list it would probably look just as bad. I made a list when replacing my Burgman 200 and everyone freaked when I pointed out the rear rack falling apart on the Genuine Buddy scooters. But I fell for it again and purchased another Buddy only to have the rear rack fail... I just can't win sometimes.
The guy at work has yet to ride his new yellow Trail 125 into work. I suspect he got dragged around by it or keeps skidding while down shifting. I told him to take it out to a empty parking lot on a weekend and practice skidding and other safety related panic actions. I fully understand how and when my ABS kicks in on the PCX and how hard it is to activate the stupid traction control, all courtesy of a hidden parking lot with gravel in spots. |

I would pick a Monkey bike over the XR150! When I was shopping for a new 2 wheeler I tried to get on a CRF300. I couldn't get my fat, non-flexing butt on it comfortably. Hence the PCX.
If I had support for a Vespa I'd have one, but I was unimpressed with the service work on the Liberty. I will admit that the new limited edition is a great looking Vespa! I do wonder about the price as well. You know its easily over $10,000. I'll try and get the OTD price so we can all flinch! |

I may be wrong but something like a 250cc bike with e clutch could mark the beginning of the end in 300cc and up scooters. Once people don't have to worry about using a clutch they might decide that a 300cc scooter is a lot of money for not much performance.

I know people who purchased a smaller motorcycle for commuting because they didn't want a "scooter". Then they get stuck wearing a clumsy backpack that gets really hot in the summer. Then they run out for lunch at work because carrying in a lunch from home is to difficult. I laugh at them because I'll pull up, open my seat, toss most of my gear in and then open my top box and pull out my lunch bag.
All these automatic motorcycles are scooters without the benefit of a scooter. But if it gets a butt on a seat then all the power to Honda. I'll jump at the chance to ride one, that's for sure! |

Years ago I used my KZ1000 for commuting. Not long after I bought it a set of big Bates saddlebags came into my possession for free. My lunch box, rain gear and some groceries fit right in. When I go to Americade I have throw-over saddlebags that I bought on eBay for around fifty bucks. My late Wife's Rebel had a set of cheap saddlebags from JC Whitney. I could carry a pair of 12 packs of soda in those while she carried Teacher related items all the time.
Yes, a scooter generally comes equipped with more cargo space but a bike can be equipped with a trunk and bags to equal that. I use my scooters all the time for milk and egg runs since the bikes are generally bare. Although both of the bikes have five-dollar Dollar General knapsacks strapped on for small items to carry. When I had to do a seven mile commute the scooter was the ultimate weapon. I used the CF Moto exclusively a few years ago. The 10-inch rear tire wore out annually and the belt every two years. The trade off in maintenance for a scooter as opposed to convenience of the transmission is a personal choice. With e-clutch the choice gets tougher in that regard.

I had the same set of Chase Harper throw over saddle bags for years. I purchased them for my CBR900RR to go to Washington DC. I also carried my bowling ball on the passenger seat inside a helmet bag. Those bags went onto several bikes after that. Finally destroyed one from going down and the other eventually wore out.
Yes, the Helix and its clones wear out rear tires quick! I had a spare rear wheel on standby mounted with a new tire in case I got a flat. Never got to swap out a flat because the rear tire wore out before it got a flat. The Honda Silverwing scooter rear tire wasn't much better for wear resistance. I'm watching the evolution of this e-clutch. Looks interesting since I'm now to lazy to shift gears now, though I'd make an exception for a right hand drive Toyota MR2 or Vanwagon, and the odd Kei truck. I had a RHD mail jeep for awhile so left hand stick is second nature. |

Interesting. I think most of the larger forklifts (around 30) are hydrogen powered at my job. All I know about them is we (in emissions engineering) had to take a safety class concerning the recharging station since our fuel locker is located in the same back lot. What do I remember most? Hydrogen refueling stations are very explosive and running away wont help, you'll just die tired and sweaty. We've had this set-up at work for awhile and have never had an issue so I trust that recharging stations pretty safe and proven.

More electric bikes and scooters could be closer than we thought.

But will we see it here? SYM's Fiddle 4 is a pretty good scoot already.
